Situational Judgment Test (SJT)

To help you understand the SJT and improve your performance on it, the Study Kit contains useful background advice and practice materials. How the SJT was developed, the corporate culture and values system underlying the test, tools to help frame and answer the questions, and definitions for the “competencies” (i.e. skills and personal qualities) being examined are all explained in detail. Two full-length, 100-question sample tests replicating the SJT—with answers to check your score and your understanding of each question—are provided for thorough practice.

Graduate Recruitment Test (GRT)

To help you understand this cognitive exercise and improve your performance on it, the Study Kit contains over 100 sample questions equivalent to two full GRT tests. Useful background details on the composition of the test, plus techniques to boost your score on all types of GRT questions, are included in the kit.

Written Communication Proficiency Test (WCPT)

Three full-length, 50-question sample tests replicating the WCPT are provided for practice. An answer key is included for each sample question. It identifies the grammar, punctuation, vocabulary, tone or logic rule being tested, and directs you to a single source where you can quickly learn to correct problems.

Leadership Experience Test (LET)

To help you develop a successful 500-word Leadership Experience Text, we will send you with the Study Kit a proven method to carry out a quick, incisive self-analysis of your leadership experience and skills. Also included to guide you in drafting your submission are definitions for all the leadership elements required of new Foreign Service officers, as these show the detailed criteria against which your LET may be judged.

Written Communication Test (WCT)

To enable you to understand the WCT, how it is marked and how to practise for it, the Study Kit contains precise instructions for planning and writing a summary in the “government style”. Three sample documents to be summarized and examples of summaries for them are included in the kit.

How to Write the "Statement of Interest" for Government Jobs

You are generally required to write at least one or more mini-essays, or “statements of interest”, on why you want each government job to which you apply. Proven tips to do so are provided in the Study Kit. You will learn how to do an effective self-analysis vís-à-vís the job you want, how to frame your background properly, and how to quickly write a personal sales pitch that will stand scrutiny. How and when the statement of interest is used by the government in the evaluation process is also explained.
